Tent Hill Lower State School

P&C PDF Print E-mail

Our P&C works very hard all year round to achieve as much as they can to help give our school and our children the best it can educationally, socially and environmentally. Without the support and hard work from all the families and our local community, Tent Hill Lower School probably wouldn’t have a P&C to help contribute much needed funds to help out with ongoing costs throughout the year.

The P&C executive for 2008 are:

President: Caroline Brooking
Secretary: Rechelle Steinhardt
Treasurer: Allison Moody

Each year the money we raise is from:

• the sale of school uniforms,
• our yearly Welcome BBQ,
• Student tuckshops
• Cent auction
• catering at Auctions,
• Tent Hill pub raffles,
• chocolate & pie drives,
• annual street cake stall,
• the Gatton Show Strawberry & Ice cream stall,
• Trivia night,
• Lockyer Valley Antique Car Rally
• Local Business’s Xmas BBQ catering jobs
• And various raffles throughout the year

The P&C raises a significant amount of funds each year thanks to a great effort by the parents, families and local community associated with our school.

Hand in hand with the fundraising, comes the spending. All money raised by the P&C goes back into our school. During the year the P&C has paid for:

• All the buses used throughout the year transporting our children to - camps, swimming, Arts Council, Musica Viva, school excursions and inter school sports.

• Years 5-7’s day trip to Parliament house and Brisbane’s botanical gardens,

• Years 3 & 4’s day trip to Darling Downs Zoo

• Prep to Yr 2’s day trip to the Empire theatre to see the show “ Mr McGee & the jumping Flea”

• Entry fees for Zone Cross Country

• Construction of the schools new sandpit

• Mowing during School Christmas break

• The purchase of shared reading resources, classroom resources & educational materials.

• For break-up at the end of each term, P&C fully pays for a sausage sizzle, cordial and iceblocks for all the students to enjoy

• And last but not least, we also pay for the beautiful books presented to each of the children and the up and coming students at the End of Year Presentation evening.

The P&C received a $3000 catering grant at the end of 2006 and through this we purchased much needed catering supplies such as electric fry pans & cookers, a hot bain maree, eskies, tables, a 2nd bbq and extra cooking utensils.

In the future, a few projects P&C will be looking towards via grants and fund raising will be

• getting shade over the playground area & sandpit,
• window tinting or external blinds for the Bendigo building,
• implementing more waterwise strategies to further beautify our grounds and
• again look at adding some additions to our undercover area if possible.
